TESTIMONIALS

MERRILL L. MAGOWAN
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD, THE MARINE MAMMAL CENTER (2006-2010)

"I have known Mecca Nelson since 2005. As Chairman of the Board of The Marine Mammal Center I had a hand in hiring her as Director of Development of TMMC. I felt we were taking a chance in this most important position in that her previous fundraising experience occurred in a mostly captive setting; for example, her target audience while working for Harvard were Harvard alumni. Nevertheless, she embraced the opportunity which became more of a challenge every day.

When Mecca joined TMMC we had just started a capital campaign to raise $16.5 million. Since $13 million was already in the bank, it did not seem to be too difficult a task to reach our goal. Unfortunately, the cost of raw materials needed for the project escalated so sharply that the final tally, which was reached, came to $33 million. We could never have achieved this without her leadership."

During the last six years, Mecca has demonstrated the ability to work hard and to enjoy favorable relationships with board members, staff, and influential donors. I could not recommend anyone more highly."

NANCY MCKENNEY, MNPL, CAWA
CEO, THE MARIN HUMANE SOCIETY

“Being a busy CEO who was relatively new to the Bay Area, I needed help in finding a new development director. Mecca screened our applicants thoroughly, provided us detailed written assessments on selected candidates and even provided input into our interview questions. She has a wealth of experience in philanthropy and a network in the development field--both provided us with special insights and support that we could not get with just relying on our recruitment ads. We found the right person, thanks to Mecca!”
